BETT Award for BoomReader!

So, after two postponed awards events, we were finally able to attend the BETT Awards on the 22nd July 2021 where we had been shortlisted in the category for Best Educational App for BoomReader.

The event was held at The Hurlingham Club in Putney, and it was great to be able to mingle again with peers and friends, many of whom we hadn’t seen since BETT 2020.

To be shortlisted in a category with well-established companies was a real achievement for a company that only launched BoomReader in September of last year. So, imagine our surprise and delight when we were announced as winners!

We were thrilled that the judges recognised the “innovative way the BoomReader app takes well-established practice in schools and leverages technology to augment the process”. As a company, challenging the established approach to recording home reading, and leveraging technology to provide additional information, rewards, ease of use and providing meaningful data to schools, is at the heart of the product. After hundreds of webinars and feedback from teachers, parents, and students, it was wonderful to be recognised at a global level by BETT.

To launch a product to one user market is difficult but to create something which has three levels of user interface and functionality complicates the process further. So, to read that the judges felt “that the product had application across the school community and were particularly drawn to the promotion of pupil independence”, was extremely rewarding.

We will continue to support our school communities by growing, enhancing, improving, and developing BoomReader so that it continues to build on the judges view that BoomReader is “a unique and individualised product focused on developing reading”.

As this was the first awards event, we had attended for 18 months and the first to showcase BoomReader, we are extremely grateful to the organisers, hospitality staff, The Hurlingham Club and the hugely entertaining, yet slightly irreverent, host Stephen K Amos, for providing such a fantastic event.

Having launched in September, with a school group, of mainly Wolverhampton schools, the use of the app has grown exponentially; driven by word of mouth and the positive reception and feedback from schools, to now being used by thousands of students, parents and school staff across the UK is truly humbling. We would like to thank each and every single one of them, as this award would not have been possible without their support.

We will now spend the summer wallowing in our success, but also focusing on user-requested features to make BoomReader successful for many years to come.
